Good morning brothers.... Happy March!
"Blessed are the pure in heart for they will see God."
One of the Be Attitudes Jesus instructed. (Mat 5:8)
For me, I mostly skimmed over this one.
Just a nice sentiment, so I thought.
You know... have a good heart, be kind, be good.
But that is not what Jesus said.
He said, "a pure heart."
As I thought about this, I came to the conclusion that my heart is rarely "pure".
I often struggle with the matters of the heart.
Jealousy, envy, revenge, unfairness, lust... all find their way into my heart at times.... you too, or is it just me?
Doesn't seem so pure to me.
Jeremiah 17:9-10 says, "the heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked."
That sounds more like me at times.
But it goes on to say, "I, the Lord, search the heart..."
That gives me hope, for it says to me that our Lord cares about my heart... yours too.
I also came to the realization... I do not have the ability to really transform my heart, not in the deepest parts.... but I also realized God can... and does.
"For if our hearts condemn us, God is greater than our hearts, and knows all things (Jn 3:20)
Yes, He is!!! (that was for me)
As David calls out to our Lord in Psalm 51, "Create in me a pure heart, Oh God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me,"
To this I say, "Me too!"
I surrender my heart to You, Lord Jesus, do what You must with it.
