Good morning mighty men of valor,
So, how is your thought life?
At MDN Thursday Morning that is the question.
Do you find that sometimes unsanctified thoughts seem to pop into your consciousness?
Thoughts of fear, lust, or lack?
Maybe your identity, worth, self esteem?
Maybe thoughts concerning health, your future, the faithfulness of those relationships in your life?
Men's Pastor Scott Caesar offers this.... I would agree.
"If we do not take our thoughts captive. we will be taken captive by our thoughts."
Yes, take every thought captive that sets itself up against the truth of God. (2 Cor 10:5).
But how?
For years I have exhausted myself trying to "take captive" my thoughts.
How 'bout you?
For the most part, I can identify when some thought is contrary to the Word of God... the truth of God.
But yet, I still struggled with "bringing that thought into the obedience of Christ".
I felt like I was in a wrestling match....
I felt like a hypocrite.
You too?
I have been taught and realized by my experience that applying the truth of God alone was part of the answer, but not the whole answer.
Eph 2:8-9 says that we have been saved by grace... not by works.
The end of Romans 5, beginning of Romans 6 speaks of the grace of God and how grace is applied when we stumble...
not to permit us to continue to sin but to help us overcome sin....
... overcome these thoughts.... to bring them into the obedience of Christ.
Okay... perhaps God's grace has a role here.
Truth alone.... leads to works.
Grace alone ... leads to continual bad choices.
Truth AND Grace.... brings victory.....
God is awesome! He provides everything!
Think about it!
