Men's Monday Message: Stay in Your Own Lane

We've all heard the adage, "Keeping up with the Jones' " but who said the Jones' are in the lead? Comparison or comparing ourselves to someone else is a dangerous mindset to practice. I have found it either leads to envy or it leads to being prideful, both attributes God would prefer we avoid. It is one thing to look at an accomplishment of someone and aspire to work towards a similar achievement... it can even bring what may seem as not possible into the realm of the possible (consider the achievement of Roger Bannister, the 1st man to run a mile in under 4 minutes).... but we must be careful not to cross the line into discontentment, resentment and covetousness. If we play the "fair/unfair" game, we lose every time. In John 21:20-23 we see the story where Peter asks Jesus his plan for John as he seems to be comparing his own future to John's. Jesus' reply was "what is it to you? You follow me." In other words, "stay in your lane". Seems like good advice. Don't be concerned with everyone else, our own stuff is enough to deal with. Stay in Your Lane..... Think about it. Strength and Honor, but Only for His Glory,
